About

UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME

As a result of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment in 1972, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was established to identify and analyze global environmental problems, develop regional and international environmental programs and conventions, and promote environmental science and information. Its most important responsibility is to support developing countries in implementing environmentally sound policies and practices. The UNEP works all over the world to assist the UN in comprehensive responses toward chemical waste, air pollution, natural disasters, ocean and sea protection, and lack of clean, sustainable water. In all their work, the UNEP maintains an overarching commitment to sustainability. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the UNEP hosts several conventions and serves as an international environmental advocate. As our world develops, the UNEP will only become more crucial to maintaining a high quality of life for all global citizens.

Keemia is ecstatic to meet you all and is excited to have a MUNderful time with you at SeattleMUN 2019.

Muhan Zhang

Chair

Muhan Zhang is currently a junior in the IB program at Interlake High School and is extremely excited to be serving you as the Chair of the UNEP at SeattleMUN 2019! As an active participant in MUN, Muhan has been a part of WORLDMUN Secretariat two years in a row, has staffed one conference, and been a delegate in three. After joining her school’s MUN club her sophomore year, she never would have expected to take part in such eye-opening experiences. She is thrilled to meet delegates, watch them debate critical, real-world issues, and most importantly, have a great time! Outside of MUN, Muhan loves to play varsity badminton, go on hikes, and pet big dogs.
