About

GROUP OF TWENTY

The Group of Twenty (G20) is a leading forum of the world’s major economies that seeks to develop international policies to address pressing financial challenges. The Group was founded in 1999 and is made up of 19 countries as well as the European Union. Following multiple international financial crises, a group of G7 finance ministers and central bank governors recognized the need for a larger body that would have a broader representation of the world’s financial problems. Currently, the countries involved in the G20 represent all major inhabited continents, 85% of the global economic output, two-thirds of the world's population, 75% of all international trade, and 80% of global investment. The aim of the G20 is clearly stated within the G20 Framework for Strong, Sustainable, and Balanced Growth: to “promote balanced and sustainable economic development in order to narrow development imbalances and reduce poverty.” The G20 works to address issues that go beyond the abilities of a single organization, specifically finding solutions to issues affecting financial markets, trade, and development. At this iteration of SeattleMUN 2019, the committee will include guests of the G20.

Stuti Jain

Chair

Stuti Jain

Chair

Stuti Jain is a sophomore at Newport High School and has been doing MUN since the beginning of her freshman year. She was immediately drawn to MUN because of its interactive exposure to world politics and its fun, yet competitive nature. It only took one conference for her to discover her passion for MUN and in her first year alone, she attended 6 conferences and was elected into the Secretariat for Newport’s MUN club. Outside of MUN, Stuti is involved in HOSA, where she also serves on her school club’s leadership. When not working on position papers or studying for her HOSA tests, she is part of Hunger Project, a Newport exclusive club that is volunteer based. This her first time staffing, so Stuti is very excited to be serving as Chair of G20 at SeattleMUN 2019!
