Seattle Model United Nations

Letter from the Secretary-General

Dearest Delegates, Advisors, Chaperones, and Parents,

Over the course of the past few years, the Model United Nations circuit in the Pacific Northwest has been focused on growth and community. SeattleMUN has been founded upon these two principles: to serve as a welcoming arena for new delegates and to foster a greater sense of community in the Seattle area. We are a unique conference in that we invite both middle school and high school students to attend. Middle school students receive early exposure to the world of international affairs and diplomacy, while high school delegates are able to share their passions and further their diplomacy skills.

Model United Nations provides delegates with the unique opportunity to view global issues through a holistic lens and understand the effects their actions have on the quality of life of people everywhere. Our delegates are able to gain a global perspective, better understand what it takes to tackle our struggles and goals, and learn the value of international cooperation. As the next generation of global changemakers, the responsibility of the world's most pressing issues has been laid into our hands.

That being said, as an inaugural conference with twelve engaging and dynamic committees, 35 staff members, and 11 secretariat members, we are delighted to welcome you to Seattle Model United Nations 2019. As a Secretariat team, we are dedicated to serving you and creating a memorable conference experience for each and every delegate. We hope that once your time at SeattleMUN 2019 comes to a close, you leave with not only a new perspective on international affairs, but also a stronger link to the Model UN community here in Seattle. The international community shares a common destiny and I commend each of our delegates for taking the very first steps to being future ambassadors of change; it means the world to me to see delegates take to heart the essence of what it means to be a global citizen.

Early registration opens on November 16th. If our delegate fee is an issue, SeattleMUN offers need-based financial aid. Information can be found on our registration page. Consistent with the principles that our conference was founded upon, we are committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to reap the benefits of Model UN. Hence, should you have any questions regarding the conference or bringing MUN to your own school, please feel free to reach out to me at sg@seattlemun.org. I am excited to see you at opening ceremonies!

Yours Truly,

Ariana Haji
